ENGINEERING INTERN - UTILITIES / ENGINEERING

Part-time position. Assists in Utilities’ projects including water and wastewater system analysis, system hydraulics, construction specifications, cost estimates and various engineering research projects. Work may require utilizing knowledge of spreadsheets, engineering concepts, and mathematics. The position consists of both office and fieldwork.  Work may also include inspecting and testing of new and existing water and wastewater facilities. All work is performed under the supervision of the Associate Engineer.

Knowledge, Abilities, and
Skills
Knowledge of engineering subjects such as calculus, hydraulics and chemistry especially as applied to the making of routine computations. Completion of coursework associated with potable water treatment, waste water treatment and water resources is preferred. Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions is essential. Excellent software skills in Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel are a must. Experience in AutoCAD and/or ESRI ArcGIS is a plus.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS

Ability to drive City vehicles, including pick-up trucks, vans, and automobiles. Ability to sit for long periods at computer station. Frequent climbing of up to thirty (30) feet vertically. Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, pulling, and pushing. Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds. Ability to traverse uneven terrain.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work outside in inclement weather, as well as inside in close proximity to others.  Hours:  This is a part-time position (16 hrs./wk.) offering a flexible schedule, which is constructed according to the student’s academic calendar.
