This position requires the employee to perform general public duties by enforcing laws and ordinances and providing assistance to the general public for the City of Cocoa. As a Reserve Police Officer the employee works at the leisure of the Chief of Police. Patrols assigned areas in a police cruiser, on foot, or by whatever means necessary. Responds to all calls for assistance from the general public. Conducts routine investigations of suspected criminal activities. Writes reports on all assigned calls. Issues citations and makes arrests as warranted. Testifies in court as required. Renders first aid as needed. Maintains constant radio communication with dispatch. Interviews victims and suspects as required. Responds to emergency and routine traffic problems. Conducts routine follow up investigations of assigned cases; interviews victims, witnesses, informants and other sources of information; conducts surveillance and stakeout.Responds to calls involving major traffic accidents, fires and other accidents or disasters; secures scene to protect victims and property; gives first aid and calls for medical assistance.Issues traffic summons if appropriate, writes police reports. Directs traffic at special events and at congested intersections, escorts funerals and VIPs traveling through the City.Performs related work as required.

Ability to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; write technical reports and correspondence; observe and record events accurately and completely; read wide range of technical literature; handle routine public contacts.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
Must be able to sit, stand and walk intermittently and lift light, moderate to heavy objects. Must possess sufficient manual dexterity and strength to subdue an arrested when necessary. Use of fingers, both hands and feet is required. Good hearing (without hearing aid) is required. Both eyes are required, with good near, far and color depth perception. Pulling, pushing, crawling, kneeling, bending, balancing, smelling, tasting, stooping, jumping, running and throwing may be required. Performs duties inside with occasional outside work. Duties may be performed in various climatic conditions associated with inside and outside work: in smoking and non-smoking areas; subject to hazardous chemicals and/or gasses; while exposed to noise, contagious, or infectious diseases and violence; in dark areas or poorly lit areas; in or with moving objects or vehicles; and at times, in poorly ventilated areas. Must be able to operate patrol vehicles under extremely elevated circumstances. Must be able to qualify with a firearm.
