FACILITIES ATTENDENT - COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT / LEISURE SERVICES

Part-Time position. Under the general supervision of the Events Coordinator, the purpose of the position is to provide attendant services for City facilities. Position monitors scheduled programs at the facility and performs a variety of manual tasks in conjunction with cleaning and maintenance of the facility. Work schedule/hours worked are as agreed with the Manager (on average not to exceed 30 hours per week, Monday through Sunday), and may not vary unless approved in advance with 48 hours’ notice. Receives and helps general public by answering inquiries and giving out routine information. Explains departmental policy, rules and regulations to the general public via personal contact or telephone inquiries; explains rates and types of service offered. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with city officials and employees, the general public and representatives of other agencies toward the accomplishment of assigned projects. Works effectively with a variety of staff, other governmental representatives, and the public; deal tactfully and courteously with the public and maintain composure in difficult and /or stressful situations. Opens and closes facility as required by schedule of events. Ensures that buildings are locked and secure at the end of each day, if assigned.  When closing, does a walk-through of all buildings. Turns off lights, makes sure all doors and windows are locked and buildings are secure.  Records in daily log book. Completes work orders for functions:  Sets up and tears down tables and chairs in rooms as required by the specific function taking place. On a daily basis cleans parking lot and property of all trash; checks restrooms and replenishes toilet tissue, paper towels, soap, etc., cleans bathrooms as needed. Reports all damage, situations, or vandalism, both verbally, and on forms provided and in daily log book. Monitor and replenish cleaning facilities for special events as needed and/or assists in other City facilities as required. Other duties as assigned to fulfill the mission of the Division.

Knowledge, ability and skills 
Has working knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the City of Cocoa as such pertains to the performance of the essential duties of Facility Attendant.  Has working knowledge of principles and practices of facility maintenance.  Has working knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.  Has working knowledge of the organization of the department, and of related departments and agencies.  Clearly understands any occupational hazards and adheres to any safety precautions inherent in performing the essential functions of the work.  Has working knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the department as such pertains to work responsibilities.  Knows how to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra- and interdepartmental personnel, as well as any external entities with whom the position interacts. Maintains high standards of accuracy in performing duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility.  Performs described Essential Functions and related assignments efficiently and effectively in a manner to produce a quantity of work which consistently meets established standards and expectations.  Assumes responsibility for completion of assigned functions.  Completes assigned work within established deadlines in accordance with directives, policies, standards, and prescribed procedures.  Maintains accountability for assigned responsibilities in the technical, human and conceptual areas. Attends and remains at work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absenteeism and tardiness.  Provides sufficient notice to upper management with respect to leave requests.  Exhibits an enthusiastic, self-reliant and self-starting approach to meet job responsibilities and accountabilities.  Strives to anticipate work to be accomplished, and initiates appropriate and acceptable action for the completion of work with a minimum of supervision and instruction.  Identifies issues or situations as they occur and specifies decision objectives.  Identifies or assists in identification of alternative solutions to issues or situations.  Implements decisions in accordance with prescribed and effective policies and procedures and with a minimum of errors.  Seeks expert or experienced advisement where appropriate, and researches issues, situations, and alternatives prior to exercising judgment. Accepts supervisory and managerial instruction and direction, and strives to meet the goals and objectives of same. 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
Tasks involve the ability to exert light to moderate physical effort in work typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials weighing between 25 – 50 pounds. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate depths.  Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate textures.  Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.  Some tasks require oral communications ability. Tasks may risk exposure to temperature extremes, strong odors, smoke, wetness, humidity, animals/wildlife, disease and/or pathogens, bright/dim light, noise extremes, vibrations, machinery, dusts or pollen, and traffic hazards.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications in order to be considered for this position.
