This is technical electronic and electrical work involving the installation, alteration, modification, maintenance, repair and calibration of electronic systems and electrical equipment systems, and fixtures. Work is performed with limited independence and individual judgment in accordance with standard practices of the trade. Work assignments may be oral or written and may be accompanied by sketches, blue prints, drawings and electrical diagrams. Work is performed under the direction and coordination of the maintenance manager and/or division superintendent and in concert with the Instrument / Electrical Technician II. Work is checked by the maintenance manager and by the satisfactory performance of the equipment installed, repaired, or maintained. Employee performs preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems. Installs, and repairs electrical equipment, instrumentation equipment, and control systems. Performs repair to electrical panels, lighting and circuitry, actuators and controllers. Troubleshoots problems, locates and corrects instrument and electrical power failures. Reports and documents results of inspections and work performed. Employee performs cleanup and housekeeping tasks of the work area, tools and equipment used. Performs all related work as required. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, ability and skills
Must have knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods and practices of the electrical trade; knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity; knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade; and working with moderately high voltages Knowledge of electronic theory, systems, and equipment in regard to maintenance, repair, and calibration of electronic equipment. Ability to learn and understand is essential. Must display skill in the use and care of tools and test equipment. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and be capable of working alone.
Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, push, pull, balance, climb ladders fifty (50) foot, lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. Must have good dexterity, vision and hearing. Must be able to work inside and outdoors in all weather conditions. Frequent work required in, above and below ground areas; noisy, wet, dry, and dusty locations.
Must be able to work inside and outdoors in various climate conditions. Must be able to work alongside others as well as alone. Work in hazardous environments, dust, noise, fumes and chemicals, high voltage, and confined spaces.
